Street Sport PlusSince the launch of the Golf 5 in 2005, VWR has spent years developing suspension kits suited for vehicles competing in the Volkswagen Racing Cup and is pleased to announce a suspension line designed for street and track enthusiasts the world over. VWR's StreetSport suspensions are offered in two forms, both fixed and adjustable damping, and are completely upgradeable with direct fit camber plates and track specific linear springs.

Many suspension kits are designed to either ascetically lower the vehicle or deliver a harsh driving experience which many mistake for performance. Too often these systems use standard off the shelf components with little to any real world R&D. For 12 months, VWR developed a coilover system specifically for your VAG platform with valving, spring types and spring rates designed for the comfort of daily driving with the handling and control necessary for spirited driving on and off the track.

StreetSport Plus Damping Adjustability

AdjustmentVWR Coilover suspension offers independent front and rear height adjustment allowing the user to dial in suspension ride height appropriate for their driving environment. The VWR StreetSport Coilover Suspension is offered as a fixed damper system while the VWR StreetSport Plus Coilover Suspension offering 12 point front and rear damping adjustment. The StreetSport System is designed as an equal balance between soft and stiff with more of a focus on daily driven vehicles not looking for an extra range of adjustability. The StreetSport Plus System's damper bump and rebound adjustments allow the user to move 6 settings softer or stiffer than that offered by the StreetSport System for the ultimate experience.

Adjustment KnobBy offering adjustable damping, the StreetSport Plus system allows users to soften the suspension while driving casually on the street or to stiffen the suspension during spirited driving and track use. Over the years, VWR has discovered systems offering more adjustability often result in the end user adjusting far out of spec, resulting in a heavily undesirable driving experience. By controlling damping through one adjustment, users can feel the difference with every click, ensuring the right damping selection was made.

Accessing the adjuster knobs is easy as no tools or disassembly are required for both front and rear adjustments.

Damper Construction

Each damper is made in Europe from strong and durable steel. The dampers are E-coated in satin black for extra durability and utilize a 22mm shaft and anodized aluminum spring seat. Damping controls on the StreetSport Plus system is made accessible by front and rear 12 position anodized adjusters. Valving is specced by VWR and is fully serviceable by qualified valving shops.

Upgradable Springs

SpringsVWR springs are delicately selected per each vehicle chassis' design and weight. VWR springs are powder-coated blue with VWR Logos etched in and come standard as progressive springs. Progressive springs offer a comfortable daily driving experience on the street and offer excellent control over the bumps and sudden elevation changes seen on streets around the world.

For the track minded enthusiast, a full linear front and rear spring is available. Linear springs offer superior control on the track over progressive springs but do so at the cost of comfort on the street. These springs are designed to directly swap onto your StreetSport or StreetSport Plus suspension and are an excellent upgrade for anyone who frequents the track. Many VWR customers simply swap to the linear springs for a track day even and then back to the progressive springs when on the street.

Specs (Height-Diameter-Nmm):
Front - 200-60-70 to 170-60-70 (depending on height)
Front Tender - 50-60-20
Rear - 200-60-50

Upgradable Camber Plates

Camber PlatesBoth VWR Suspension Systems are fully compatible with VWR Camber Plates. Unlike many camber plates available on the market, these plates are a direct swap that require no cutting and are completely reversible back to stock. The VWR Camber Plates offer 3 degrees of camber adjustment allowing the track minded customer to dial in the suspension even further without breaking the bank. Upgrading camber plates will always increase noise to some degree, therefor are offered as an option for the spirited driver looking to maximize his or her experience with the ultimate in performance. At this time, camber plates are only available for those with the upgraded Linear Springs.

What to Expect

suspension testingWith a VWR StreetSport or StreetSport Plus Coilover Suspension you can expect a true transformation in the way your car rides and handles. VWR's engineering teams were specifically tasked with mimicking the behavior of a Porsche 911, which is taut and controlled but never harsh around town or floaty at high speeds. VWR's Engineers were able to adapt their race-winning Volkswagen Racing Cup suspensions into something that would combine dramatic performance improvements while still delivering genuine day-to-day usability. When put to the test against Porsche 911's with PDC Switchable suspensions and the KTM X-Bow R, VWR was thrilled with the end results.

Not Enough?

Tracksport Front Coilover Tracksport Rear Coilover

There is no one perfect suspension for both the track and street as these two environments are truly different in many regards. The StreetSport and StreetSport Plus Systems offer a balance between daily driving and track use and come from VWR setup with daily driving in mind. Through upgrading camber plates and springs, these two systems can be transformed into a more track going setup, however still useable on the street.

For the true track enthusiast which spends very little time on the street, or for the person with a dedicated track vehicle, VWR offers race wining TrackSport as well as 3 and 4 way adjustable systems with individual damping control for both bump and rebound. These professional systems offer a significantly stiffer linear spring and damper rate than the StreetSport systems, thicker shaft for less flex on the track, top mounted camber plates and a full inverted rear coilover upgrades. The 3 and 4 way adjustable system offers front and rear remote reservoir and are designed for only serious professionals looking to get the most out of their vehicle on the track. Visit our TrackSport page to learn more
